Mail Online broke a new traffic record for May recording a monthly total of 42,370,127 unique browsers, according to the latest figures for UK national newspaper websites from the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCe).
The figure represents an increase of 4.62 per cent on April; average daily unique browsers to the site increased by one per cent month-on-month to 2,390,095.
In May all national titles recorded traffic increases month on month, for both monthly and daily figures. The Guardian took second place with 2,010,341 daily browsers, a month on month rise by 9.42 per cent.
For April, March and May no figures have been reported for The Sun and Times websites at News International's request, ahead of paywall plans at the Times and Sunday Times.
The full figures for the four audited titles and Mirror Group's websites are listed below. The percentage in brackets indicates the month-on-month change compared with the April ABCe report :
