The NCTJ has opened entry to its annual Awards for Excellence in Journalism , which this year includes a new prize for student publication of the year. According to a release the awards aim to "recognise and reward the best journalism students completing NCTJ-accredited courses and journalists/photographers with less than two years' experience on the job."
The awards cover five categories for news journalism, sports journalism, top scoop/exclusive, features of the year and images of the year, with a separate award for students and trainees.
This year also sees the introduction of a new award for student publication of the year, for "the best student online or print publication submitted by accredited course providers".
The NCTJ adds in a release that "judges will be looking for innovative and original ideas, quality content and design, student involvement and reader/user engagement."
Entries can be submitted until 5pm on Friday 14 September and the awards are free to enter.
Only work produced between 1 September last year and 31 August 2012 can be submitted, and tutors and editors can enter "on behalf of their students or trainees".
Last year's winners were announced at the Society of Editors conference in November.
