News Corporation has promoted James Murdoch to deputy chief operating officer, a move which will see him relocate to New York. In a release from News Corp today , it was announced that he will be collaborating with other senior staff at the company run by his father Rupert Murdoch to "develop and execute strategies and plans" for business growth.

Murdoch Jr will also become chairman and chief executive officer for News Corporation's international business, maintaining his current responsibilities for the company's operations in Europe and Asia.

He will report to News Corporation deputy chairman, president, and chief operating officer, Chase Carey and will also reportedly work closely with his father, who is chairman and chief executive officer.

In the release, Carey says that Murdoch Jr has demonstrated "that he is a shrewd and decisive operator who can deftly navigate complex issues to transform businesses".

Murdoch Jr adds that he is "delighted" to be working more closely with Carey, "whose extraordinary leadership is felt in every part of the business".

Rupert Murdoch's youngest son has been chairman and chief executive, Europe and Asia for News Corporation as well as executive chairman, News International, since 2007. He was previously BSkyB's chief executive officer and also headed up News Corporation's Asian television group STAR.

He first joined the company in 1996 as an executive vice president, originally based in New York.
