Seven years at Journalism.co.uk taught me exactly what our community needed. Now I get to make it happen

Last month, something I never thought would happen actually happened. I became the owner of Journalism.co.uk and Newsrewired - the platform and conference I've been part of for seven years. It feels surreal, but also completely right.
From the time I joined as senior reporter in 2018 and became editor a year later, I watched our community grow and evolve. I saw what worked and what didn't, and had countless conversations with journalists, PR professionals, media consultants, academics and tech innovators about what they really needed.
There were so many opportunities I could see but couldn't act on. Now we are building on that potential and creating something truly special.
We're not just tweaking things around the edges. This is a complete transformation.
The rebrand is coming this summer - new name, new look, new everything. But more importantly, we're redesigning the entire platform around what you actually need. Better connections, smarter tools, and a real community hub for digital publishing innovators.
Jacob Granger has stepped up as community editor, and Ophelia Birch is now our training and growth manager. I'm so proud of our small team - they're full of brilliant ideas and truly understand what our audience needs. Now they have the space and support to really blossom and bring those ideas to life.
The industry is facing real challenges right now. Traditional business models are struggling, audience attention is harder to capture, and the way content reaches people keeps shifting. But there's also massive potential for those who embrace new technology early.
We can't afford to wait. That's why we're going all-in on AI. Not because it's trendy, but because we're a lean team that can move fast and smart. We can grow and innovate in ways that bigger, more rigid organisations simply can't.
This summer: The rebrand launches. You'll see a completely fresh look and feel.
Autumn: We're launching awards that spotlight genuine digital innovation in newsrooms. No fluff, just real impact.
End of year: The new platform goes live, built from the ground up around community and connections.
We're also expanding our directories to help you find the right people, tools, and opportunities more easily. And yes, we'll be hiring a content creator soon to help tell these stories properly.
We're building something different because we come from this community. We understand the daily challenges of working in digital media because we live them too. Our approach is hands-on, community-focused, and driven by real experience rather than assumptions.
This isn't just about building a better website or running better events. It's about creating a space where the people pushing journalism forward can connect, learn from each other, and actually get the support they need.
Whether you're a journalist experimenting with new formats, a PR professional navigating changing media landscapes, a consultant helping newsrooms transform, or a tech innovator building tools for our industry - this is your space.
We're building something special here, and we want you to be part of it. If you've got skills, ideas, time, or resources you'd like to contribute, we're all ears. The best platforms are built by their communities, not for them.
The media industry is at a crossroads, but that's exactly where the most interesting paths begin.
