Mirror iPad

Trinity Mirror has today launched free interactive iPad apps of the Daily Mirror and Scotland's Daily Record.

The editions are free to UK users Monday to Friday with international users able to access paid-for apps.

The apps are digital reproductions of the 45 pence print editions, with added video, "expandable articles, interactive ads, 30-day archive, automatic overnight downloads and a live news ticker", Trinity Mirror said in a release.

Videos in the apps show news stories, film trailers and video games, with the Mirror app including an "interactive pop-up crossword".

The Mirror app uses the iPad's geolocation capabilities, auto-detecting the reader's location and offering the choice of 10 regional editions.

Lloyd Embley, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People, said in a statement: "The e-edition is brimming with the energy and creativity that will extend the reach of our journalism to new and wider audiences."

Allan Rennie, editor-in-chief of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, added: "The e-edition brings a different vibrancy to our paper which allows us to showcase our leading Scottish news, sport and entertainment in exciting new ways."

And Chris Ellis, Trinity Mirror's managing director of digital, who led the development of the e-editions, said: "The app looks just like the print version but the key difference is in the touch. Significantly, this introduces a whole new level of engagement and interactivity that makes both the Mirror and Record truly relevant to the digital generation."
