Johnston Press today announced a proposal to form a single operating unit comprising four of its subsidiary newspaper companies in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire.

The announcement was made in relation to operations at Wilfred Edmunds, North Notts Newspapers, South Yorkshire Newspapers and Sheffield Newspapers.

Following a review of the newspaper companies the managing director of South Yorkshire Newspapers Paul Bentham today "relinquished" his position, a letter from chief operating officer Danny Cammiade said.

Mark Rodgers, managing director of Sheffield Newspapers has also left with immediate effect today, another announcement said.

Bentham and Rodgers will both be succeeded by John Bills, who will take on both roles with effect from today.

It is not yet known when more information on the "proposed" single operating unit will be available.
