The National Union of Journalists is focusing on trying to save ten staff at risk of redundancy at two Scottish Trinity Mirror titles as the company confirms the loss of 85 posts.
The publisher confirmed this week that the editorial staff at the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail was to be reduced by 85 following a 30 day consultation.
The cuts include 49 voluntary redundancies and 11 compulsory redundancies.
According to the NUJ, ten out of the 11 proposed compulsory redundancies have been deferred for up to three months and are therefore now the subject of the union's efforts.
The proposed cuts, announced by Trinity Mirror last month,
prompted urgent talks between the publisher and the National Union of Journalists.
Trinity Mirror has also decided not to replace five fixed-term contracts at the titles and the number of casual staff has been cut by 20 positions.
A spokesman for the company, said: "We have worked constructively and sensibly with the NUJ to complete this reorganisation."
