Amazon Kindle users can now access more than 1,400 digital newspapers and magazines electronically.

NewspaperDirect, which specialises in providing same-day editions of internationally-recognised newspapers from over 90 countries, announced its collaboration with Amazon today.

On Monday, NewspaperDirect announced a similar deal with Sony to support its Sony Reader Digital Book.

PressDisplay.com, a NewspaperDirect service allowing readers to see their chosen paper onscreen, will enable users to download local, national and international titles to their Amazon Kindle.

The Kindle versions look just like the printed editions but feature NewspaperDirect's advanced navigation and reading tools.

"We have completely transformed the experience of reading newspapers and magazines on Kindle," said Alex Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect.

The Kindle, much like the Sony Reader, was initially designed to allow people to read books electronically but now provides access to NewspaperDirect's complete library, including more than 1,400 publications from 93 countries in 44 languages.

The Amazon Kindle joins an increasing number of devices already supported by PressDisplay.com, including the Sony Reader, PCs, Macs, smartphones, iPhones, iPod Touch, BlackBerry devices and IREX digital readers.
