Freelance journalists working in radio and publishing in the north west of England are being offered the chance to gain digital media skills thanks to a work exchange scheme launched by Vision+Media .

The Digital Media Exchange (DMEX) initiative puts freelancers with digital media businesses for a 20-day placement to add more digital know-how to their existing experience.

The scheme has previously helped TV professionals, organising placements for 30 individuals, but will now be extended to writers, editors, journalists and producers working in the publishing and radio sectors.

"In return for their time on the programme, participants will learn about how to migrate their specialist skills to digital environments," says Vision+Media in a release.

The DMEX scheme will pay freelancers £100 a day with funding covering £70, leaving companies to pay £30 a day for the duration of the placement. The new programme will offer 10 placement opportunities to freelancers, who must have at least three years' experience.

Details of how to apply for the scheme as a freelancer or an employer wishing to host a placement are available on the Vision+Media website .
