Northcliffe Media has closed the three editions of its Recorder series in Nottingham.

The company confirmed today that the Nottingham Recorder, the Nottingham & Long Eaton Recorder, and the Mansfield & Ashfield Recorder had been closed "as part of a wider review of the portfolio across Northcliffe Media".

The company refused to comment on how many jobs would be affected by the move.

The final edition of the Nottingham Recorder was published on 29 June.

According to recent ABC figures, the Recorder had an average weekly distribution of 145,080, making it one of the largest free weeklies in the country. Northcliffe announced last month that it was taking daily title the Torquay Herald weekly. It refused to comment on potential job cuts at the time, but reports suggested that half of the 32 editorial staff could be facing redundancy.

Northcliffe owner Daily Mail & General Trust earlier this year ruled out buying or launching any new regional titles, and said that it was interested in approaches for the regional newspaper division.

Last month Northcliffe sold four titles under the Leek Post & Times series to Staffordshire Newspapers, part of Iliffe News and Media Limited.

According to the publisher's yearly results , released last month, its regional newspapers  shed 336 jobs last year, with the total headcount being reduced by 11 per cent.

Revenues at the company fell by 9 per cent due to declines in advertising. Operating profit fell by 35 per cent, down £4 million year-on-year to £8 million.
