Guardian.co.uk has kept the top spot for the second month running, although it recorded a slight drop in overall global traffic, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCe). Last month the Guardian.co.uk, Telegraph.co.uk and Mail Online all passed the 30 million monthly unique user mark for the first time , with the Guardian coming out top.

Guardian News & Media recorded 31,693,844 unique users last month, a drop of -3.82 per cent from last month.

The Mail overtook the Telegraph for October traffic, recording 30,441,081 (up 1.3 per cent). The Telegraph came in third with 30,012,735 unique users.

The Mirror Group (which includes the mirror.co.uk, people.co.uk, dailyrecord.co.uk and sundaymail.co.uk) showed the most improvement month-on-month, with 10,146,434 unique users, an increase of 13.61 per cent.

The bureau's report also includes statistics on average daily unique user figures for the six audited titles, as shown below.

"Breaking the 30 million barrier for the second consecutive month is a great achievement," said Emily Bell, director of digital content at Guardian News and Media.

"Our Trafigura story and Charlie Brooker's column on Jan Moir a few days later highlighted the way stories can grow and propagate through Twitter and Facebook, with steady streams of traffic being driven by these social media channels. Guardian.co.uk then provided the perfect space for readers to add their comments and opinions."
