Phone hacking: 61-year-old man arrested

Police today (10 August) made a new arrest in connection to allegations of phone hacking. In a statement, the Metropolitan police confirmed a 61-year-old man had been arrested by appointment at a London police station by Operation Weeting , the team of officers tasked with investigating phone-hacking allegations.

Officers refused to identify the man but many news outlets, including the BBC, Sky News and the Telegraph, are reporting that the arrested man is Greg Miskiw, former news editor at the News of the World .

"He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful interception of communications, contrary to Section1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977 and on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to Section1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977," the police statement confirmed.

Last week a 71-year-old man was arrested by police officers investigating phone hacking and officers from Operation Elveden , which is investigating alleged payments to police officers for information.

Reports at the time suggested the man to be former News of the World editor Stuart Kuttner.
