Political fact-checking site signs up sixth US newspaper

The Pulitzer Prize-winning PolitiFact has signed up a sixth US newspaper to its political fact-checking mission.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel launched PolitiFact Wisconsin this weekend. Using PolitiFact's Truth-O-Meter, the new state site will rate the accuracy of statements by elected officials, politicians and political parties.
The site, which was set up by the St Petersburg Times and Congressional Quarterly in 2007 ahead of the 2008 US presidential campaigns, already has partnerships with news organisations in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, Florida and Georgia.
"The St. Petersburg Times launched PolitiFact three years ago. Since then, we've rated more than 1,500 claims on our Truth-O-Meter and tracked more than 500 of President Barack Obama's campaign promises," says Bill Adair, St. Petersburg Times' Washington bureau chief and editor of PolitiFact, in a blog post .
"We're glad to have a PolitiFact site in Wisconsin. The state's politicians are interesting characters who often have an independent streak. They should keep the Truth-O-Meter quite busy."
