Reuters.com has unveiled its new look following a year in development . The new site, featuring redesigned graphics and reorganisation of content, offers additional personalisation and interactive features.
"We want this to be the world's best business and finance website covering business and finance news, analysis, and opinion. Full stop," said David Schlesinger, Reuters editor-in-chief. "We want you to be able to come for a quick glance at the top headlines, or a longer deep dive into a topic that's important to you. We want you to scan the output of the 2,800 men and women or hone in on a favorite writer or photographer," he added, in the announcement.
Reuters is a 'news power house', said Schlesinger: "Our 2,800 journalists in 190 different bureaus around the world are dedicated to being the indispensable news source. News has been in our blood for more than a century and a half, but we've always been restlessly innovating and always looking to the future."
New features include a new toolbar at the bottom of every page. More features and functionality will be rolled in coming months, Reuters said.
In October, Reuters' global head of multimedia Chris Cramer told delegates at the AOP conference 2009 that social media will become newsgathering of 'first resort'.
"I think it's one of the most significant developments when it comes to multimedia around at the moment. We listen to our clients - they're screaming at us [for this type of service] and they have been for years," he told Journalism.co.uk.
