Awards recognising investigative journalism in some of the World's most difficult environments have been re-launched this year by the Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR) .

The African Investigative Journalism Awards 2010, set up last year, have now been opened for entries, accepting work in print, online or broadcast formats and published between 1 July 2009 and 1 July 2010.

The deadline for entries is 30 September and winners will be announced at the African Investigative Journalism Conference 2010 in November.

As well as a cash prize for the winning entry and runner up there is an Editors' Courage Award, presented to an editor who has "withstood pressure to (self) censor a good story or programme and still published or aired it". According to the award guidelines journalists who wish to apply must be employed by local media in an African country.
