Skillset has relaunched its fund to support multi-platform training for TV journalists and freelance TV professionals.
The TV Freelance Fund will give out £300,000 over the next year, with bursaries of £800 available to freelancers to pay for training on one of 33 pre-selected courses.
The training includes short courses on cross-platform storytelling and advanced editing for online and multiple platforms.
Grants of £500 are also available to company employees to take up training on the courses. To be eligible for a bursary, candidates must demonstrate either professional experience in the UK TV industry or the wider creative media industries with a view to working solely in TV or in broadcasting as part of a multimedia role.
"Multi-platform productions are becoming more and more important to our industry, and so too is the need for people within our industry to possess the relevant skills. We hope that this scheme will help our TV professionals stay ahead of the curve as our industry travels in this exciting new direction," says Peter Dale, TV Skills Council chair and founder of independent production company Rare Day, in a release .
The fund, which is aimed at TV professionals across the UK, is supported by contributions from the BBC, Channel 4, Five, Sky and other cable and satellite companies. The new scheme follows a £200,000 investment by the industry training body in multi-platform skills and the bursary programme last year .
