Sky News will now stream its TV output live on its website, 24-hours a day for free, according to a press release.

To watch the livestream, which is available for UK and Republic of Ireland visitors, users will not have to log in or have an account to view the online broadcast.

The site has also launched a new video player for the website that will offer faster and better quality video clips. The player has been developed by the Sky News web team from the broadcaster's on demand service Sky Player.

Video has been given further prominence on the Sky News site as the top video news story will now appear at the top of the site's homepage instead of a still image. Sky News recently launched a free Sky News application , letting iPhone users send text and images to the channel and delivering news alerts with images and video.

"With Sky News now available on more platforms than ever - on TV, online, on mobiles, through iPhone and iPod touch apps, at train stations and on planes - there's barely a screen in Britain now where you can't access Sky News," said Julian March, senior executive producer for Sky News, in the release.
