Trinity Mirror has appointed David Higgerson as the new head of multimedia for its regional newspaper division.
Higgerson, who is currently assistant editor (digital) of the Liverpool Daily Post and Liverpool Echo, will take up his new position in June.
He replaces Mike Hill who left the post in March to take up the editorship of the South Wales Echo.
"David has led several highly impressive multimedia innovations, including the Post's successful crowd-sourcing project," said Neil Benson, editorial director of Trinity Mirror Regionals.
"I am delighted David has taken on this key role as he has the skill and energy to continue to further drive our multimedia ambitions."
Twenty-eight-year-old Higgerson started his career at the Preston Citizen and had two spells at the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, in between which he was political correspondent of The Journal, in Newcastle.
Reporting in to Benson, his main responsibilities in his new role will be to work closely with regional editors and newsroom staff to continue the division's multimedia drive.
