The University of Ulster has appointed Colm Murphy as the new head of its media, film and journalism school.
Murphy joined the university in 2003, following a career including six years as a reporter and business editor at the Sunday Tribune. He started as a lecturer on the university's MA Journalism programme, of which he was later made course director.
In 2009 the course was named named as a top performer in student exam results by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
In a press release from the university , Murphy says he wants to find similar success for the schools other postgraduate and undergraduate courses in journalism, media and film.
"We have achieved a huge amount over the past four years in teaching and research, but the School team want to build on this and are very ambitious for what we will achieve in future. Our postgraduate courses attract students from around the globe. Our undergraduate Media Studies course is one of the most long-running and pioneering in the UK or Ireland," says Murphy in the release.
