The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), has launched a new media degree with a strong vocational focus on journalism.
The institute's new BA Hons degree in English and Contemporary Media is a three-year course and will feature practical journalism modules, as well as an optional industry placement in its second year.
The programme will replace UWIC's English and Popular Culture degree and include some modules from this course, including teaching on communication and analytical skills, a press release from organisation says "With the largest media sector in the UK outside of London, the new degree is perfectly located in Cardiff to offer both a rewarding and stimulating experience. This innovative joint-honours degree allows students to combine theoretical perspectives in English with theoretical analysis of contemporary media; such as film, television, music and digital technology and practical journalism," says programme leader Robert Taffurelli, in the release.
The media and journalism aspects of the course will be taught by freelance journalist Taffurelli, a former editor of Film and TV Production Review and current consultant editor of IBE magazine, and Dr Nicola Smith, a lecturer in Sociology and Popular Culture.
