WikiLeaks is to step up its publishing of US embassy cables and "other materials", founder Julian Assange announced this week.

Speaking outside Belmarsh Magistrates Court yesterday, where he briefly appeared ahead of an extradition hearing next month in relation to allegations of sexual assault, Assange said WikiLeaks' work "continues unabated".

"We are stepping up our publishing for matters related to Cablegate and other materials," he told reporters.

"Those will shortly be occurring through our newspaper partners around the world — big and small newspapers and some human rights organizations." WikiLeaks began publishing batches of more than 250,000 diplomatic cables in November, working with media partners such as the Guardian, Der Spiegel and Le Monde on coverage of the releases.

Journalists from the Guardian who have worked on WikiLeaks related stories have written a book on their partnership with the whistleblower's site, due to be published next month.
