European Fund for Investigative Journalism offers grants for 'stories that make a difference'

The European Fund for Investigative Journalism (EFIJ) is to award research grants from a fund of €20,000 for stories that could make an impact.

The fund stipulates that any project should include 'cross-border research, networking between colleagues, established and innovative investigative methods' and be 'original, innovative and intensive'.

"There are loads of stories to be written, and many others to be improved immensely, simply by looking into the cross-border realities of today's world," says a statement on the EFIJ website .

The EFIJ was recently launched as a sister network to Scoop to support investigative journalists in EU countries and other European countries.

The fund is currently in a pilot stage, as part of a project by the Belgian Pascal Decroos Fund and money for the grants has been provided by Fritt Ord, the freedom of speech organisation. Entrants should submit applications online by 8am on March 23 2009.
