The Guardian has appointed its first ever dedicated editor for mobile.
Subhajit Banerjee begins his role today after joining the newspaper from the Daily Telegraph, where he helped launch the title's iPad app as well as blogging about technology.
Banerjee will be responsible for tailoring special content for mobile devices and "championing mobile practices".
Janine Gibson, editor, guardian.co.uk, said: "We're thrilled that Subhajit is joining us at this exciting time for mobile at the Guardian.
"With mobile and apps becoming an increasingly important platform for Guardian content, having a dedicated person to optimise our editorial output for this growing market will be a fantastic addition to our digital team."
As well as the Telegraph, Subhajit has previously worked as a staff reporter at the Statesman after starting his career in journalism as a trainee at India Today.
His appointment comes as the paper gets ready to launch its first full iPad and Android applications, and as the industry continues to move towards using mobile as a key source of subscription revenue.
The Guardian launched its first iPhone app in December 2009, and released a new version in January this year, adding a subscription charge for users outside of the US.
Last week saw Sky News launch its first iPad app. The app is currently free but will charge non-Sky customers a monthly subscription fee in the near future.
