Outgoing Johnston Press chief executive to chair PA Group board of directors

Outgoing chief executive of Johnston Press, Tim Bowdler, is the new non-executive chairman of the PA Group board of directors, it has been announced in a release.

Bowdler will take over from Paul Potts, who performed the role of chairman as well as CEO, since Sir Harry Roche's retirement as chairman in May 2008.

"We recognise that the coming year will be a crucial period for the media industry and Tim's appointment will allow me, along with the executive team, to concentrate on the challenges and opportunities ahead," Potts said in the PA release.

Bowdler joined Johnston Press in 1994, and was chief executive from 1997 to January 2009. He is also chairman of the Press Standards Board of Finance and has previously been president of the Newspaper Society. Bowdler joined the PA Group board in 2001.

"I am honoured to become chairman of PA Group," Tim Bowdler said.  "It is a great business with a first class management team. I look forward to working with them and the board in my new role," he added.
