News Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch are due to appear before the

Leveson inquiry

next week, with at least two days dedicated to their evidence.

According to the witness list for next week's Leveson inquiry hearings, which begin after a break of several weeks, James Murdoch will be the only witness to appear on Tuesday (24 April) with his father Rupert Murdoch to appear on Wednesday. Thursday has also been reserved for Rupert Murdoch's evidence should the extra time be necessary.

News Corporation is the parent company of News International, the former publisher of the News of the World which closed last year amid allegations of phone hacking. It is also the publisher of the Sun, the Times and the Sunday Times.

In July last year both Rupert and James Murdoch appeared before the culture, media and sport committee to face questions relating to the phone-hacking scandal.

At the time James Murdoch said: "I want to say how sorry I am and we are, particularly to the victims of phone hacking and their families. It is a matter of great regret of mine, my father's and everyone at News International."

He has since appeared again before the committee to face further questions.

Other witnesses appearing before the Leveson inquiry on Monday next week are chairman of the Telegraph Media Group Aidan Barclay, and chairman of the Independent and Evening Standard Evgeny Lebedev.

Journalism.co.uk understands the inquiry is now moving into module 3, which is looking into the relationship between the press and politicians.
