The Telegraph homepage is getting a "significant upgrade", with a new design released earlier this week.

Two further steps are planned which will see the site adopt new homepage templates for "high-impact" news stories and "live articles".

The live template will give "journalists a new tool for unfolding news events", the news outlet told Journalism.co.uk by email, and reporters will be able to file copy for stories in the live template from their mobile phones.

The developments mean the homepage will be "better able to showcase the depth of our journalism", will be "a celebration of our multimedia - video, pictures, graphics - combined with our traditional written journalism", and will have a "greater focus on 'live'," the Telegraph added.

A "live ticker" at the top of the homepage will show top stories from news, sport and finance, the news outlet said, adding that there will also be live stock market data on the homepage.

A number of news sites, including BBC News, have evolved to display real-time reports for breaking news stories.
