JournalismUK embarks on a new journey and we ask you to join us on it
Whether you've been with us since the dial-up days or just discovered us today, we're thrilled to share what we've built for you.
Here's a story about independence, belief, and a small team that refused to compromise.
A new chapter, written on our own terms
This year marked a turning point in our 26-year history. Rather than seek outside investors or sell to a larger publisher, editor-in-chief Marcela Kunova bought out Journalism.co.uk to keep it independent and ensure our mission stays true to you: the journalists, techies, comms professionals, academics and all other media professionals we serve.
We did this replatforming entirely on our own. No venture capital. No corporate owners. Just a fierce commitment to maintaining our independence because we believe that's how we serve you best. It's how we stay honest, stay focused, and stay yours.
We listened, then we built
Last year, we spent months talking to you—through surveys, interviews, and conversations about what you actually need from us. What we discovered changed everything.
You told us you come to our site to prepare for crucial meetings, to find genuine expert voices cutting through the noise, and to connect with real journalists doing meaningful work. So we rebuilt our entire structure around that.
Now you'll find Work Smarter (actionable tips you can use today), Discover (deep analysis that makes you think), and Humans in journalism (the inspiring people doing extraordinary work in our industry). Every section designed with your real needs in mind.
We also heard something else: you're facing the same challenges we are. You're navigating digital disruption, tight resources, and rapid change. So we're creating more space for your voices through our Community spotlight because solving these challenges together makes us all stronger.
What changed (and why it matters to you)
We're now JournalismUK (or call us JUK for short). It's easier to say, easier to share, easier to remember when you're recommending us to colleagues or giving us a shout on socials.
Our podcast is on an indefinite hiatus while we are figuring out the way forward. We will soon launch a survey to learn what you need from our audio journalism.
We moved to a modern CMS that lets us deliver content better and faster. Ophelia created a cleaner, more intuitive experience and absolutely aced the website migration. We've embraced smarter tools (including AI assistants, which we always disclose and human-check) to stay lean and focused. Jacob embraced his community editor role and has done an incredible job turning user feedback into concrete new tools and website functionalities. And Marcela? She empowered the team and stirred the ship in the right direction.
Yes, we're now a team of three. Marcela is so proud of us she might actually burst. She says that we've accomplished - rebuilding an entire publication whilst keeping everything running - is nothing short of remarkable.
This is still a work in progress (and we need you)
We migrated tens of thousands of articles, and whilst we've tested extensively, you might spot the odd broken link or low-res image. That's the reality of building the plane whilst flying it. If something's not working, tell us at jacob@journalism.co.uk- we're on it.
More importantly, we need your input. What features would make this site indispensable for you? What's missing? What should we prioritise? This platform exists to serve you, and your feedback will shape what comes next.
Here's how you can help us thrive
If you believe in independent journalism about journalism, here's what would make a massive difference:
Let's do it together
More than just a website revamp, this is a commitment to building something that genuinely serves you while remaining truly independent. We're small, we're determined, and we're betting everything on the belief that quality journalism coverage and connected community matters. If you want to learn more about our story and values, check out the About section.
Thank you for being here, for giving a damn about the future of journalism and for being part of this community.
