About me
I am a newspaper-trained journalist specialising in business, finance and property, with regular freelance contracts as a sub-editor and features writer. Prior to its sale to Nikkei, I spent an 18-month stint at the Financial Times on one of its investment magazines.

I have 20 years' experience of designing and sub-editing newspapers and magazines, and all the skills that go with that – managing complex projects, commissioning freelance writers, meeting tight production deadlines, fact-checking and keeping a wary eye for potential libel issues

I started my career in regional newspapers, where I worked at a senior level before moving on to become editor of Better Business magazine. As editor I was responsible not only for commissioning and editing the content, but all aspects of design and production.

I currently work as a freelance sub-editor for MoneyWeek, the UK’s biggest selling financial publication, as well as writing regular features for The Negotiator, a website for the UK property industry.

My newspaper background enables me to turn turgid prose into bright, readable copy, and as an NCTJ-trained journalist I have a good understanding of legal issues, including copyright and defamation.

I am a good team player, and I have an in-depth understanding of production needs and deadlines.

I am fluent in InDesign, Quark Xpress, Photoshop and Word, and I have used a variety of content management systems. I am also comfortable using WordPress content management systems, and have built my own WP websites.

I also have considerable experience in the field of editorial recruitment, having recruited my own staff for many years as an editor in regional newspapers, while more recently I have helped put together an editorial team for the landlord website Property118.
