The International Herald Tribune have appointed Jack Ewing as their new European economics correspondent. He will be reporting on German and Eastern European business and economics, with an emphasis on the European Central Bank and major industry.

Ewing joins the New York based international newspaper from BusinessWeek Magazine, where he was European regional editor.

He worked at BusinessWeek's Frankfurt bureau for 11 years, having worked previously as a reporter and editor at Bloomberg News in Frankfurt.

Ewing told Journalism.co.uk that "experience in coveing financial markets" and "an acadmic background in economics" were useful tools, but that key to success in economics journalism was "the ability to write about economics in a way that is accessible to general readers."
