This practical workshop with video storytelling instructor Robb Montgomery consists of two live interactive online sessions to help you plan, shoot and edit effective vertical video stories for mobile viewers.


No previous experience is required.

This is an introductory level course where you will learn:

  • Audience centric approach to prototyping vertical videos
  • Video editing apps, tools, and tips
  • Narrative structures for video
  • Storyboarding and scripting
  • How to use AI tools to speed up production

This course will be taught live from Robb’s multi-camera TV studio in Berlin where you will see every tool, touch and editing tip demonstrated in detail.

What is included?

The workshop is organized as two 60 minute live classes on Zoom, taking place on Tuesday 16 January and Tuesday 23 January 2024. Live class sessions will be recorded.

The live sessions, app tutorials and case studies are organised on the Smart Film School Platform, just like Robb's mobile journalism and documentary film masterclasses. 

Includes access to course materials for one year from class start.

About Robb Montgomery

Robb Montgomery is an American mobile journalism expert based in Berlin.

He is a former editor at the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune and the author of Smartphone Video Storytelling and Mobile Journalism textbooks.

His #Mojo documentaries have been awarded top prizes at global film festivals and he trains journalists for CNN, Reuters, WAN-IFRA, The New York Times, Journalism.co.uk, Mediacorp, MBN, Hindustan Times, SPH, Channel News Asia, InterNews, and VRT public broadcasters.

Montgomery developed the first mobile journalism training program for Radio Free Europe TV in 2011.

Since 2006 he has taught mobile journalism workshops and university courses in more than 30 countries.

He holds a BA in Journalism (1990 – Eastern Illinois University).
