Overview of job

Global is recruiting a digital journalist to drive digital audience growth for our award-winning news and politics podcasts.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day digital output, using a variety of formats including news articles, evergreen SEO features and social media posts.

You will have a passion for identifying and publishing interesting stories that will engage audiences, with a great knack for simplifying the complex and highlighting issues audiences may not have read about.

You will also need to be a great communicator and highly collaborative as you will be working with various in-house teams from audio production, to video, social and search.

You will have at least two years proven experience of working in a newsroom and a good understanding of what drives digital engagement.

Measures of success:

In the first few months, you will have:

  • Researched and delivered a wide range of stories, working with the senior rditor to form a data-driven approach.
  • Worked with the senior editorial to produce an editorial calendar 
  • Started collaboration with in-house teams to maximise story success

Responsibilities of the role

  • Increase the reach and impact of our news podcasts brand by executing an effective digital content strategy that taps into topics discussed in-show and identifying additional topics ripe for coverage.
  • Identifying and writing relevant news stories for the brands.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • Excellent writer 
  • Strong editorial experience and flair, with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of digital media, including broadcast, digital publishing and audio.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a busy newsroom or news desk
  • Proven experience in people management and effective communication.
  • Outstanding journalist on their subject matter - passionate and authoritative.
  • The ability to juggle multiple deadlines.
  • Great planner and creative thinker
  • Strong understanding of user needs.
