It is no secret the publishing sector faces massive market challenges between rising operational costs and dwindling revenue.
Independent publication gal-dem announced it was ceasing operations at the end of March. And it looked like one of the largest music titles was going down the same route this year, too.
Print and online music publication Rock Sound almost shut down at the start of the year. But it was bought out and saved this month by Whynow Media, a multimedia company set up by Gabriel Jagger, the son of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger.
The acquisition has seen most staff return and promise a "new era" for the publication. In this week's podcast, we discuss that vision and path to sustainability with the creative director James Wilson-Taylor.
The answer lies in delivering on user needs: in this case, helping readers be part of a bustling music community and to support their favourite bands and artists.
