For 20 years, Chicago WBEZ's weekly radio show This American Life has dominated the American media as one of the best examples of broadcasting around.
Ira Glass, the show's host and producer, has been in the industry for 30 years and as anyone who has listened to This American Life will attest, he is a master storyteller.
In these videos from 2009, Glass describes some of the building blocks that make his work so compelling, advice every journalist, producer or anyone interested in the creative process, should remember.
The video quality itself is terrible but – just like his show – Glass doesn't need images to get his point across with incredible skill.
