A rare opportunity has arisen to join the editorial team of Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International (HLPFI) as deputy editor.

HLPFI, part of the DVV Media International portfolio, is the market-leading business-to-business publication dedicated to the international movement of heavy and oversize cargoes by all transport modes. It is read both online and in print by a wide audience of experts in the project cargo supply chain. 

Overview

This is an exciting new role that will suit a journalist looking to take the next step in their career and delivering exclusive, authoritative and in-depth content, both online and in print.

Applicants should have a background in journalism and an interest in current affairs and B2B reporting. A willingness to develop off-diary news leads, exclusive content, build a network of contacts in the project logistics sector and sense what is newsworthy are essential requirements in this role.

This is a fascinating industry, with many moving parts, and HLPFI has built a world-leading reputation in delivering informed content to its readers. A truly global market, you will have the opportunity to travel to conferences, exhibitions and press events, and the right candidate will excel in this role by being able to ingratiate themselves into the sector.

You will be part of a small and dedicated team and will be required to work closely with your editorial colleagues and freelancers, as well as the brand’s commercial and operational teams. 

Key tasks will involve:

  • Managing the online publication of news – subbing press releases, following up on news stories, generating exclusive leads, interviewing, writing, proof reading and sourcing photos for daily articles on the website
  • Collating news and additional content for weekly e-mail newsletters
  • Assisting the editor with the development of premium content online, including data services
  • Liaising with commercial team for the creation of any sponsored content/advertorials
  • Growing and maintaining a professional presence in the industry, building a network of contacts and sharing content on social media
  • Assisting the editor with the research, commissioning and subbing of features for the print magazine
  • Collating news, writing features and insight pieces, sourcing photos, proof reading and assisting editor with making changes to the print magazine
  • Assisting with any proof reading/copywriting required for the brand’s events – including awards category criteria
  • Play a key role in the organisation of the awards entry process, helping to build the judging panel, read entries and assist the editor with the chairing of the judging sessions
  • Support any other events/webinars organised by the brand
  • Join daily editorial meetings and regular meetings with the whole HLPFI team
  • Gain a broad understanding of the sector and grow your professional network
  • Travel to and represent the brand at press events, conferences and exhibitions worldwide
  • Build key relationships with experts in the industry and act as an ambassador for the brand

About you:

  • You will have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Experience of working in B2B journalism
  • Preferably an experience in the maritime and/or logistics industry
  • A willingness to develop off-diary and exclusive news content
  • You will need to be diligent, flexible, well organised and able to work independently
  • You must have a full understanding of written English and its application in both news and feature-based articles
  • You must be available to travel at the company’s request as you will be expected to travel both within the UK and internationally
  • You will be able to meet strict deadlines
  • A willingness to represent HLPFI at public events
  • Able to develop a network of contacts
