In 1995 Van der Luijt, who started his career in Holland in local media, moved to Britain to oversee the launch and development of the secretarial portal DeskDemon.com. In 2007 he became web editor and content strategist for Director of Finance Online and SME Web, both published by Atalink, a subsidiary of Sir Bob Geldof's media company Ten Alps plc.
Van der Luijt left Atalink in 2008, citing personal reasons for his departure.
