Former news editor John Wellman has been named deputy head of news placing him second-in-command of news across the paper.
Wellman was previously deputy news editor and before that night news editor at the paper, which he joined from the Press Association, where he was news editor.
In addition to Wellman's promotion, Grainne Gilmore has been appointed economics correspondent.
Gilmore was previously the paper's deputy finance editor.
