No contacts? No problem. Here are six tricks ideal for students or journalists just starting out
Contacts are essential in journalism for getting the scoop to your big story, but when you are just cutting your teeth in the industry, getting a juicy story can be tough without that little black book.
However, there are other ways to sniff out a story without requiring large contact list, and Aubrey Allegretti, political reporter, Sky News suggests FOIs amongst his six best tricks for getting a contactless story lead — ideal for budding journalists.
“We all know getting a good scoop isn’t easy, that’s the whole point, but when you’re a student, or just new to the game, it’s particularly hard to start to find stories. You’ve not yet penetrated the networks that many come to rely on, and you don’t know where to start looking,” he writes.
