What do great novelists such as Hemingway and Fitzgerald have in common with skilled data journalists?

Not much, you might think. Unless, that is, you're consultant John Weathington, who asserts: "To tell a great story with data science, you must think like a great storyteller".

Weathington notes that although data is sometimes seen as a bit dry, with the right storytelling techniques it can be transformed into something much more engaging.

In this article on Tech Republic, he outlines the best format for data-driven stories, advising journalists to "follow the lead of the masters" by crafting a story with "a protagonist, a quest, and a resolution".
