Few journalists have succeeded on TikTok like Vice World News reporter Sophia Smith Galer.
Her blend of TikTok trends and explainer content helped her hit the 400k follower milestone this week. On Twitter, she shared a handful of lessons on her growth on the platform.
Despite hitting 90m views and 11.5m likes to date, these impressive metrics are not the be-all and end-all of the platform. The platform has lots of scope for story idea generation. For that, do not be afraid to dip into smaller niches.
"I use TikTok for lots of things both personal and professional, but for the latter I often use it to build rapport and find + receive stories. Sometimes it's the nicher videos with fewer views that drive DMs & next steps," she writes.
this happened last night!!! 400,000 people 🤪 I won’t share 400k things I’ve learned from being on TikTok but I will share 4! combined with videos on my personal account as well as videos for VICE World News, my videos have had over 90 million views on here 1/5 pic.twitter.com/790Tbk5tB5
