BBC releases first video footage for creative archive projectFootage from more than 100 BBC programmes is now available to download, remix and re-edit as the corporation launches the first part of its creative archive project.

Selected material from science, natural history, art and wildlife programmes has been made available on the Radio 1 and 1 Xtra sites.

Users are being invited to remix the footage to make a three minute video jockey piece as part of a month-long Radio 1 competition.

Footage is provided in Windows Media Player, QuickTime and MPEG formats under a special licence which allows the material to be used as part of new creative and non-commercial projects in the UK.

"We're delighted to be working first with such an innovative site on bbc.co.uk; one which reaches a young, media aware audience who are naturally tuned in to the idea of content being available when they want it, and who will welcome the right to shape it to meet their needs," said Paul Gerhardt, director of the Creative Archive Licence Group.

More creative archive footage will be made available on the BBC site over the next 18 months.
