Dassanayake previously worked as a trainee journalist for 106.5 FM and also did freelance work for Future Publishing and the Bath Chronicle.
"The biggest challenge will be getting to know the industry - this is the first time I have been reporting on the talent management industry. So I will have to familiarise myself with the big players, and develop contacts," Dassanayake told Journalism.co.uk.
Dassanayake offered some advice for those aspiring to be an online writer: "I would say get as much experience as possible to develop your skills as a writer. It will prove invaluable to you when applying for jobs, and in your development as a journalist. Also visit high-quality websites as often as possible to find examples of well written, interesting pieces of web journalism," he said.
