Mintoi Chessa-Florea is stepping up from reporter to senior healthcare reporter for Mergermarket, a Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) intelligence service, and will be responsible for covering the entire spectrum of M&A transactions in biotech, pharma, medical devices and diagnostics.

Chessa-Florea started working for the Financial Times-owned Mergermarket Group four years ago as a consumer journalist for Europe. Before her promotion, she was reporter for Pharmawire.

In order to communicate the value of a company to the readers as objectively as possible, Chessa-Florea said it was fundamental that she has a good understanding of the company's products, pipelines and technology.

Asked about tips for those interested in becoming a reporter in the healthcare field, she said that a 'genuine interest in science, and respect for intellect' would be an asset.

"Be humble and open to learning, as most of the company CEOs are PhD scientists or at least specialists in their field," Chessa-Florea said.
