A freelance writer and columnist is hoping to set a new world record with the help of newspapers across the globe to raise awareness of World Cancer Day.Chris Geiger, who writes a regular column for the Bristol Evening Post and Western Daily Press, will attempt to set the record in February for the most published feature article by the same author in one day.
Geiger survived a terminal cancer diagnosis having been told he had just three months to live, 18 years ago. The 43-year-old's treatment for his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma included chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
He is an ambassador for Cancer Research UK and Above and Beyond and hopes his writing and record attempt can encourage support the charities.
"I write to create awareness on the whole 'Cancer' subject. I write funny, serious and controversial columns, simply to keep the subject in the public domain. I couldn't think of a better way of obtaining a bigger ordnance, creating awareness on a worldwide scale, and helping the charities I support." he told Journalism.co.uk.
In order to qualify for the Guinness World Record, the article must contain at least 1,000 words and appear in different daily newspapers on the same day. Only daily newspapers published at least five days a week count and these must have a circulation of no less than 15,000. Translated versions of the article must contain at least 70 per cent of the same content as the original piece.
