The Public Interest News Foundation (PINF) has launched a beta project mapping out all of the local news titles in the UK.

The Local News Map charts British communities' options for local news, highlighting the areas where support from policymakers and philanthropists is needed. Users can search via postcode or local area district - or simply click around on the map - to see the closest news titles (office locations or registered address via Company House).

The map displays regional news titles, defined as formal companies that primarily provide local news and are regularly updated. It does not yet show informal news outlets (e.g. Facebook groups, WhatsApp groups, blogs or community magazines), whether an outlet truly covers the areas it claims to, any measure of the quality of output, or the number of employed staffers.

As a beta project, PINF is seeking input on any missing organisations or incorrect information via this form. More information on the map can be found on the PINF website.
