Mr Bickerton's new role will involve reporting on new technology and creative strategies in the UK TV and film post production industry.
"The biggest challenge will be getting to grips with the various bits of kits and the processes involved in editing and grading programmes and films," he told journalism.co.uk.
Mr Bickerton studied Computing at University of Northumbria before starting his journalism career as a senior technology researcher at the Consumers' Association, now Which? magazine.
He was later promoted to deputy editor on PC Utilities magazine and most recently worked as website editor for Endemol TV programmes including Space Cadets and Celebrity Big Brother, one of the world's most popular entertainment websites.
His advice to journalists trying to break into the industry is to learn as many skills as possible.
"It's a good idea to gain experience across the board - from research through writing, design and editing - so you can stand out from the crowd during interviews.
"Obviously it's important to keep abreast of the latest technology too."
