Thomson Reuters today launched Reuters America, a news and information service in the US featuring aggregated content from a series of publisher partners.

Reuters is using content contributions from partners to increase coverage in areas such as entertainment and sports, with partners already including The Wrap.com, US Presswire and Examiner.com.

The service aims to cover 100 cities across all 50 states and will also offer 'embedded' journalists in some customers' newsrooms to understand their requirements.

The Tribune Company has already signed a deal with Reuters to give its company's newspapers and websites access to news, photos and digital content from the new service.

"For too long, this market was bound by a one-size-fits-all offering," president of media for Thomson Reuters Chris Ahearn said in a press release.

"Reuters America is introducing choice and flexibility to the news industry. In today's world, we must be more than a content provider – we need to be a partner and act as an extension of our clients' newsroom."

In a release Examiner.com said the new partnership will mean Reuters and its subscribers will have access to Examiner.com's network of localized, consumer lifestyle content, and in addition Reuters will provide its content to Examiner.com, for use in its own articles.

"Not only does it further validate the 'pro-am' contributor model that publishers have a desire and a need for the type of content we are creating, but it's also a huge nod to our Examiners and the high level of quality media they are producing," Rick Blair, CEO of Examiner.com said in a statement.

"The fact that a trusted and established news provider like Reuters will be distributing Examiner.com content underlines the local and topical credibility of Examiners."

Reuters said it will be announcing the launch of several additional services in other media markets next year.
