The Daily Mirror is to offer the second series of Ricky Gervais's podcast as part of a new digital downloads channel.

The Golden Globe-winning comedy actor's first record-breaking podcast series was broadcast from the Guardian website.

The first series of 12 half-hour shows on Guardian Unlimited recorded nearly three million downloads and put Mr Gervais in the Guinness Book of Records.

However, the new series will available on Mirror Downloads which was launched by MGN Digital this week.

MGN is working with audio books download firm Audible to provide comedy and celebrity-related content - including the Gervais podcast.

In February, Audible began offering The Ricky Gervais Show series two through its website and iTunes store.

Further collaboration with Tunetribe.com will provide an area on the Mirror's site where users can download MP3s, album reviews and music features.

In addition there will be an 'unsigned' section for bands and artists where they can sell and promote their own music.

The viral hub Bore Me is providing the viral content on the site.

Steve Purcell, editor of Mirror.co.uk, said: "This really is an exciting step forward for the website and for our army of users.

"We now offer not only the greatest editorial content but also a whole area geared towards music and comedy downloads.

"This development shows our ongoing commitment to our online audience by creating a fun, informative and interactive website."
