Could I recommend the 'RSS platter', sir?

RSS has yet to hit the Oldham ChronicleBless him. The Oldham Chronicle's managing director diligently searches for 'Oldham' on all the national newspaper sites each morning, according to MediaGuardian.

"Every morning I go through the nationals' websites and type in 'Oldham'," Philip Hirst told Martin Wainwright.

How long does that take I wonder?

Why not set up a Google News alert? Or an RSS feed based on a Yahoo! search? All those Oldham stories will come to you, Mr Hirst, bringing you more stories from more sources as soon as they are published. It's all in our three-minute introduction to RSS.

Story is accompanied by heart-rending detail about fascinated passers-by watching the Chronicle's presses pounding away: "extractor fans still pump the intoxicating smell of printers' ink into central Oldham".

I bet that still doesn't smell anywhere near as intoxicating as a hot PowerBook, but that's another story...
