IPC Media and News International each took away three prizes at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards last night, with both also being highly commended in an additional category each.

All three of IPC Media's awards fell within the editors of the year categories, with Ali Hall of Look taking the prize for Women's magazines (weekly or fortnightly), Jules Barton-Breck of Essentials the winner in the women's magazine (monthly or less frequent) and Tony Chambers, editor of Wallpaper taking the award for the lifestyle magazines category.

News International's Fabulous magazine clinched two awards, including the Fiona Macpherson new editor of the year, which was given to Rachel Richardson and art director of the year for a consumer weekly or fortnightly title, which went to Mark Hayman.

Its third award was for columnist of the year, a new category in the awards, which went to Caitlin Moran of the Times.

The New Statesman won two categories on the night, with Jason Cowley named editor of the year within the category for newspaper and current affairs magazines and Jon Bernstein given the prize for website editor of the year.
