Sub-editors at Newsquest titles in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire are facing redundancy following a proposal to create a centralised sub-editing operation for both counties, Journalism.co.uk understands.

The proposals – which could result in the loss of six jobs – are thought to affect staff at titles including the Swindon Advertiser, Oxford Mail, Wiltshire Gazette & Herald, and Wiltshire Times series.

Management are understood to have told staff about the proposals yesterday, including a consultation period on voluntary redundancy running until February.

Journalism.co.uk has not yet received comment from Newsquest management.

Staff at fellow Newsquest title the Brighton Argus staged several strikes recently after the publisher announced the relocation of its subbing operations to Southampton, resulting in the loss of seven jobs at the paper.
